Its hard to believe that today marks the one year anniversary of Leroi Moore’s death.  Although he may be gone, his music and influence on the band will always exist.  DMB’s latest album, Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King is a great tribute to Leroi and to the band itself.

“We’ll be drinking big whiskey while we dance and sing,” “Why I Am.” “And when my story ends, it’s gonna end with him/Heaven or hell/I’m going down with the GrooGrux King.”

Rest in peace Leroi….

This is one of my favorite remakes (Time of the Season by the Zombies) that the Dave Matthews performs at their concert at Red Rocks in (I believe) 2007.  Enjoy!

Now compare it to the original…

On August 25, 2008, announced the viewing and funeral services for LeRoi Moore. On Tuesday, August 26, 2008, there was a private viewing held at First Baptist Church with funeral services scheduled for today at 11 a.m.

There is a guest book that you can sign on the Charlottesville, NC site. I went ahead and signed the guest book as my way of paying tribute to a really great musician. Also on the site, you will find LeRoi’s obituary.

If you wish, take a moment to browse both sites ( and the to learn more about the Dave Matthews Band and LeRoi Moore.

Rest in peace, LeRoi. You will be missed.

As most of you know, Bruce and I are huge fans of the Dave Matthews Band. We were in Pullman, WA when we heard about Leroi’s death. Needless to say, we were both in shock and disbelief.

We have been going to their concerts here at the Gorge at least since 2002. (Bruce has gone longer than I have) This is the first year that we will NOT be going to their concert at the Gorge this summer. (We chose not to go this year due to many other activities this summer and could not fit this into our schedule)

Bruce and I are saddened by the sudden loss of such a key member of the band. It will be hard to imagine what the band will sound like and what they will do in the future. However, I think that Dave Matthews summed it up the best from his quote/excerpt from their site

“There’s no place I’d rather be than here with you guys right now.” We cherish special memories of our lost friend. Tonight, Dave told a story about LeRoi at a bar in Virginia where the cash register was near the stage and LeRoi leaned on the register because “standing had become a chore”. Roi proceeded to play the most beautiful version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow. Dave said, “that was the day I fell in love with him. And I’m still in love with him.” It’s safe to say we all were in love with him. “It’s always easier to leave, than to be left.”

Rest in peace Leroi, you will be dearly missed!

RIP – Tribute to Leroi Moore video:

This is one of my favorite Dave Mathews Band songs, The Dreaming Tree, performed back in 2003. Since then he has kicked up the song by adding a trumpet into the mix (played by Rashad). My favorite version of this song was the one that they played at Piedmont Park. Unfortunately the Youtube video of this version is not very good otherwise I would have posted that video instead. If you have a chance to listen to the Dave Mathews Band live at Piedmont Park CD, please do…it rocks!!

Other DMB song favorites of mine are: The Stone, #41, Crush, Two Step, Dancing Nancies, Seek Up and Recently to name a few.
