Happy Birthday Bella!  You are now 3 years old today!

I clearly remember the day we brought you home…howling and screaming all the way home in your crate!  I thought to myself…”boy, do I really want another dog??? Especially this howly one??”

What was I thinking!!!  Every day, you bring us joy and happiness to our family!  Your morning “woo woo’s” to wake us up to a new day, your “woo woo’s” (with your bone in your mouth) greeting us when we come home….the joyous sound of “welcome home mommy and daddy” fills the house.  What a blessing you have been to all of us!  Domino has a best friend and sister who he loves to play with!  Erin and Brandon have a “best friend” at their side.  And the shear joy and laughter you bring to me personally has been the best “medicine” that anyone could ever prescribe!

Thank you for being the little “fart” you are, Bella!  We are sooo looking forward to many, many more years of the same!  Happy Birthday my baby Bella!

Happy Birthday Donahan Bella Luna of Tri-Ste!  You are 2 years old today!!!

It’s hard to believe that two years ago that you were born and that you were just a thought in our minds.  I remember going to your house and seeing all your brothers and sisters and having a hard time determining which puppy we wanted to bring home.

We are SO happy that we chose you to be in our family!  You are great companion to all of us (even Domino!!) and we couldn’t imagine life without you!  You are a wonderful dog, full of vigor and zest!  There is never a dull moment when you are around!

We are looking forward to MANY more years with you!  We can’t wait for the adventures to unfold!!

So enjoy your day (even though it will be spent in the ring) little Bella!  We love you lots!!!

Devon, Bella’s brother is tearing up the conformance circuit!  At only 17 months he is already on his way to becoming a champion!

Here’s his win history so far:

  • 11/23/08 Lake Shore Kennel Club – Best of Winners (1 pt)
  • 11/30/08 Kankakee River Valley Kennel Club – Winners (1 pt)
  • 12/12/08 Starved Rock Kennel Club – Winners (1 pt)
  • 12/13/08 Skokie Valley Kennel Club – Winners (1 pt)

Devon’s not in another show until the end of January so he has a bit of a break.  Bella is also showing in Portland, OR the week that we are at Lotusphere.  Let’s wish them both the best of luck!

Since we got Bella about a year ago, life hasn’t been quite the same for all of us!

At first, when we were deciding whether or not to get another dog/puppy, we were not sure if we wanted another pet as life with just Domino was wonderful.  We weren’t sure if we were ready to tackle potty training, teething, biting, etc. again!

But once we went to see the litter of puppies, there was no turning back….we were hooked!  We HAD to get another adorable puppy!!  And we knew we wanted to get a female to compliment Domino’s maleness.

So Bella (aka Digger) was the lucky puppy to get chosen to live with our family.  From the first day that we brought her home, Domino has been a champ with her.  He put up with all of the attention she was getting and did not get angry when she bit his ears or got under foot.  He did not get jealous and act out.  He slowly but surely started to play with her more and more, being gentle at first and then getting a bit more frisky once she got older.

I look at them today and they are inseparable.  When Bella has to stay the night at her “aunt” to get her ready for an upcoming dog show, Domino is lost without her.  He pouts and gets depressed when she is not around.  And the moment she gets home, Domino is beside himself with joy and happiness!  It’s so cute to watch.

I am so glad that we decided on another puppy and even happier that we chose Bella.  She is the best thing that ever happened to Domino.  And we couldn’t be happier to have them both as pets.

Bella and Domino are best friends….

Here’s a picture of Bella’s papa Simon at Nationals where he earned his Master Agility Championship!!! He is a conformation champion and an agility champion earning him his AKC Dual Championship! Simon is the first springer in the southwest to earn a MACH and only the 3rd springer in the whole country to earn both a CH and a MACH.

I believe that Bella has taking on some of her daddy’s traits as she LOVES to “spring” about!

Way to go Simon!  Congratulations and a job well done!  Bella is proud of her papa!!

Bella will be showing this weekend in the Greater Clark County Kennel Club show held at the Clark County Fairgrounds in Ridgefield, Washington.

I am not sure what # show this is for her, but she definitely seems to like being in the ring.  Wish her luck and hope that she gets some points!

Bella and her bone

Bella and her bone

Per my previous post on Friday of last week, I mentioned that Bella would be entering into the Vancouver KC dog show this last weekend.

Overall, Bella showed very well and looked really good in the ring.  She always looks like she is having a great time and almost seems like she likes the “lime-light”.  She won her class (12-18 month old females), which put her into the Winners class competition.  Although she did not win the Winners class round, she still did very well considering she was the again, the youngest one in the ring.  Our handler, Debbie, stated that the judge was “eying” Bella pretty good, but because the two that did win (Winners and Reserve Winner) were more seasoned and mature, Bella just didn’t have a chance.  But it is good to know that she showed well and that the judge seemed to really like her.

We need to keep in mind that Bella is only showing to get her use to the ring and the art of “showing”.  Domino started showing when he was 2 years old.  Bella is on 15 months old.  So, she has a long way to go, but again, knowing that she likes it, shows well and is getting “practice” gives us confidence that she will do well once she does start showing seriously.

So congratulations my Bella Luna!  Mom and Dad are proud of you!  And Domino is glad you are back home!!!

I am beginning to believe that I am part dog as I spend literally 24×7 with my two dogs. When Domino was a puppy, Bruce and I shared time with him (since Bruce and I were not married and were living separately at that time), but I would say that Domino still spent the majority of time with me. When we got Bella, I was working at home so I was able to spend 100% of time with her as she grew up. So both animals see me as their main master (although I feel more like the b*tch!) and tend to gravitate to me more than the remainder of the family members.

When we only had Domino, he followed me EVERY WHERE! From the moment I got up to the moment I went to bed, he was constantly at my side. I thought that would change a bit when Bella arrived as he would have a companion to be with and wouldn’t rely on me so much. Well…..that isn’t QUITE how it all worked out. Instead, now I have TWO dogs that constantly follow me EVERY WHERE! I can be going down the stairs (with them in tow behind me) and then decide to quickly change directions and walk back upstairs, and WALLAH, guess who is right behind me??? Yup, my faithful companions, Domino and Bella!!!

Not that I don’t mind them being with me all the time, but geesh, can’t a woman get a break sometimes??!! Honestly, I do not mind it so much as I love my dogs to no end and wouldn’t know what to do if they weren’t around, but I do need that break once in a while from them!

I guess it brings new meaning to the phrase, “leader of the pack”. 🙂

Brandon is now officially at college. We dropped him off at WSU Pullman yesterday, got him unpacked and settled into his new home for the next year. The campus is very pretty and has LOTS of hills! The dorm was the basic dorm that you see at all campus’. It brought back lots of memories for me when I went to college. Some things are the same and some things are different. I am very excited for him as I think he will do a lot of growing up there. I am sure I will see a different person when he comes home next.

His friend Tyler is going there too and is in the same dorm as Brandon. We met Tyler and his dad there and took them to lunch (their last real meal!) once we got the boys settled into their rooms. After that, it was adios amigos. The farewells weren’t as emotional as I thought it was going to be. I think it mainly had to do with the fact that his friend was there when we said our farewells. It’s just way too uncool to blubber in front of your friend when you say good bye to your mom! As for me, I didn’t cry, but definitely felt “empty” as he walked away from us with his friend. I don’t think it has quite hit me yet. Give me a few days and I think it will settle in. And then I am sure that the tears will come in my own private moments.

It’s weird to be an “almost” empty nester. One gone, and two more to go over the next 3 years before it is official.

Right now the feelings I have are melancholy mixed with excitement and nervousness. You wouldn’t think you would be able to feel all those emotions at once, but believe me, it is possible! I am saddened that he is gone, but excited for his new future and nervous on how he will do and acclimate. Silly emotions you may think, but real none the less.

Brandon, if you happen to be reading this, we all wish you the best of success! We know you will do well and we are VERY proud of you. Go Cougars!!!

Oh…totally on another note….our “other” kids (canine in flavor)….well, they stayed with Aunt Kelly and Uncle Brian while we were gone. Needless to say, they weren’t as well behaved as my son was! Let just say, Aunt Kelly has one less hanger that Bella chewed up after she escaped from her crate, as well as one very well gnawed on soap that Domino decided to eat! Thankfully, there has been no residual affects from that fiasco! No Lawrence Welk moments in other words!!! Oh, and yes, let’s not forget Bella barfing on Kelly and Brian in bed! I think they are worse than taking care of infants and two year olds!! But we love them anyway…right?! 😉

Bella showed in two shows at the Portland Expo Center (see previous blog entry). She did very well considering that she had just turned 1 years old one day before her first showing on Friday. She was the youngest in her group which made it difficult for her to win due to her immaturity. However, this is not to say that we are disappointed in how she did. She showed BEAUTIFULLY!!! She gaited with pride and confidence and she was stacking a lot better than she had in the past.

Bella got 3rd in Sweeps and 4th in 12-18 month Junior puppy class on Friday. She got 4th on Saturday in the 12-18 month Junior puppy class as well.

All in all, we are very happy with her performance. She is doing well based on her age. I think as she gets older and matures she is going to be a contender for the other English Springers.

So watch out Junior puppy springers….Bella is on her way to becoming the future champion! 🙂
