My two (fraternal twin) nieces in WY have been on the high school swim team for the last couple of years. Both are outstanding swimmers and have both done well in their individual swim events.
Worland hosted Greybull and Rawlins during a triangular swim meet on Friday (October 17) and came away with sophomore Kelsey Albrecht (my niece) stealing the show in the 500 yard free and leaving her two Rawlins competitors in her wake with an astounding 2.02 win over her closest competitor. “She still swam the fastest time by 12 seconds,” Davis said. “Her time in that will put her in the top 6-8 in State. She moved up on the Hall of Fame. It was a big swim for her.”
Her sister, Katelyn Albrecht swam a State qualifying time for the first time this year by cutting 4 seconds in the 200 IM. Katelyn Albrecht also cut “a huge amount of time” off her previous scores in the 500 free, coming in 8 seconds under her previous best.
This week the team will start their taper – helping the body rest and rebuild – by cutting out of one of the practices, she said. “We should start to see improvements in time with that,” she said. “Next week it should be a strong conference, then State,” she said. Davis is looking for a good week of practice before the conference meet at home starting on Friday at 5 p.m. And picking up on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Last year Worland was 5th at conference. “There’s no doubt we should be in top 3,” Davis said. “They could be anywhere in the top 3.”
Great job Katelyn and Kelsey! Good luck next week at your next conference meet and with State!!!
