Last night I went to my first Prairie HS girls basketball game. In all the years Brandon has been playing in the Pep Band for the Prairie HS sports teams, I have never attended any games for one reason or another. So last night, since it was a quiet Friday night, I thought it would be nice to see a girls basketball game.

The Prairie HS girls basketball team is one the highest ranked teams in their division and has won many state and divisional championships, so I was anxious to see how good of a team they really are. Well, needless to say, they didn’t disappoint me!

They played against Beaverton’s Southridge’s Skyhawks (who is ranked 12th in the nation by USA Today and Oregon’s No. 1 winning team). Prairie defeated Southridge with a score of 60-44. Ashley Corral lead the Falcons with 23 points. Ashley is a senior this year and will be attending USC on a full ride scholarship. She chose USC as her next home even though she had 30 full ride scholarships to choose from. She will be greatly missed next year!

The first half of the game, it was neck in neck with a halftime score of 19-20, Southridge. However, during the 2nd half, Prairie prevailed with a 14-0 run in the third quarter that turned a 24-24 game into a home win for the Falcons. Prairie lead a 13 point lead going into the final quarter. The Skyhawks never got closer to 12 points the rest of the game.

Although winning against a nationally 12th ranked team is special, this game was also special as this was Al Alridge’s 600th career win!

Congratulations Prairie Falcon’s girls basketball team and coach Al Alridge for your memorable win last night!
