Last night Prairie High School had their annual holiday concert. As always, the music was great and a good time was had by all. With Joseph Accuardi leading the bands, last nights selections included:

Jazz Ensemble:

The Curly Shuffle (Quinn/Jennings); A Big Band Christmas (arr. Carl Strommen); God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (arr. Dave Barduhn); Swingin’ Jingle Bells (arr. Allen Gray)

Freshman Band:

Santa Baby (Javits, Springer, arr. Norred); Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (Marks/Lavender)

Combined Freshman/Symphonic Bands:

Patapan (arr. Tom Wallace); O Holy Night (Adam/Custer)

Symphonic Band:

Orpheus Overture (Offenbach/Conley)

Prairie Wind Ensemble:

An Irish Rhapsody (Clare Grundman); English Folk Song Suite – March – Seventeen Come Sunday, Intermezzo – My Bonnie Boy, March – Folk Songs from Somerset; The Christmas Song (Torme/Wells/Higgins); Sleigh Ride (Leroy Anderson)

Brandon played a solo in A Big Band Christmas (Jazz Ensemble) and another solo in The Christmas Song (Wind Ensemble) last night. He played very well. I just wished I had a video recorder so that I would have been able to capture his playing as well as the band.

Peter Ellis (a senior this year who just received a scholarship to a private music college) lead the Jazz band playing his saxophone in God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. He did an excellent job in conducting the band as well as playing his instrument on some select solo pieces. Peter is an excellent musician who can play multiple instruments and I wish him the best in his music career!

I am looking forward to future concerts. Their next performance will be the Jazz Preview Concert which will be on January 23, 2008 (which is their Jazz preview to their upcoming festivals) Unfortunately, I will be attending Lotusphere during this time and will miss their performance.

Prairie High will be attending the Mt. Hood Community College Invitational Festival – Wind Ensemble (not sure when this will be) as well as the Clark College Jazz Festival (Jazz band) which will be held on January 26, 2008.

For the first time in over 10 years, Mr. Accuardi is re-assembling a marching band for the high school. Hopefully next year we will see them marching in various parades in the community!

Next year they have a full schedule with festivals and concerts. I’ll keep you posted as each one comes around.

Great job bands!! I always enjoying coming to the concerts and listening to you play!!!
