Last night Prairie HS had hosted another concert, this time with the theme of America the Beautiful. Featured bands were the Jazz Ensemble, Freshman Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble. This is the 2nd concert of the year and they sounded OUTSTANDING!!! Mr. Accuardi (Director) is really doing a wonderful job of bringing these kids together and creating some beautiful music!

The first band to perform was the Jazz Ensemble (which Brandon is a member). They played 3 songs – Ja-Da by Carleton/Nestico, The Peanut Vendor by Simons/Vance and last but not least, Crusin’ for A Bluesin’ by Weiner/Blair. This last song that they played was absolutely wonderful! Here is a clip of the song (played by Bloomington North Jazz Band). Definitely toe tapping music!!!

The next band that played was the Freshman Band. They played 3 songs which sound very good. The Freshman band then played with the Symphonic Band in a number called Greenwillow Portrait by Mark Williams. Very good!

A short break, and then the Symphonic Band was up next with 2 strong songs, Tritsch-Tratsch Polka (by J. Strauss/Reed) and Where the Black Hawk Soars (Robert W. Smith – in tribute to the fallen at Columbine).

Lastly, the Wind Ensemble (which Brandon is also a member) played 4 wonderful classics. All were dedicated to those that are serving our country today and those that have served our country in the past. The songs played were American’s We March (by Henry Fillmore), Armed Forces Salute (arr. by Bob Lowden) and An American Elegy (by Frank Ticheli). The grand finale was America the Beautiful with a surprise guest from the Prairie High Jazz Choir who sang along with the band.

It was a very pleasant way to end the day. I have been going to these concerts since Brandon has been playing (as far back as when he was in 6th grade! He is now a Senior in HS!) I have watched him and his friends grow and improve over the years and become some fine musicians. I AM SO LOOKING FORWARD TO THEIR NEXT CONCERT! GOOD JOB MR. ACCUARDI AND BANDS!!!
